The Problem With Forever

TITLE: The problem with forever WRITTEN BY: Jennifer L. Armentrout HOW I GOT IT: ARC sent to me by HarlequinTEEN VERSION I READ: ebook GENRE: young adult, contemporary, romance, fiction, abuse.

THE BOOK IS OUT ON 16TH JUNE --- PREORDER NOW!

Review: This is my first ARC from NetGalley (thanks HarlequinTEEN for sent it to me) and my first book from the author Jennifer L. Armentrout, I've heard a lot about LUX but I already have a tons of unfinished trilogies and sagas on my shelf that I just couldn't add another one (not yet!).

The story is a work of fiction as this story has not actually happened but the lack of a peculiar control on foster familes is real; the words are so powerful and the characters are so real that I've almost exploded in tears last morning on the train when I was reading the last part of this book --- Armentrout bravely writes about the flaws on the system, particularly about the foster care and a childhood full of abuses; in some parts it's really hard to keep going with the reading, especially with a theme like this, but Armentrout brilliantly delivered a powerful story that even if it becomes a little heavy you won't be able to put it down!

The entire story is narrated by Mallory Dodge POW, the story is alternated with flashbacks from Mallory's childhood where we get to know her background story and the reason of her behaviour; at almost 13 years old, after she almost died for the neglect of her previous 'family', she has finally been adopted by two doctors who saved her life and four years from that she decides (with a lot of convincing from Carl and Rosa, her adoptive parents) to start a public high school after years been homeschooled -- it's a completely new environment for Mallory, all she knows from real schools she read it from books or watched on television. In this new adventure, she finds an old friend that she thought she'd ever seen him again: Rider Stark (I love the last name -- game of thrones fan right here!) the guy who grew up and saved her during their horrible childhood -- together they will learn how to take the control of their own lives.

The romance in this book is just heartbreaking. Do you know all the feelings that you have faced during 'The fault in our stars' by John Green? You've got an idea! Don't think you won't get hurt from these pages: YOU ARE WRONG! This story is so full of love, protection, guiltiness and heart-breaking. I'm so sorry for your heart, but it's definitely worth it!

Favourite Character I loved every single character in this book but my favourite is the main character, maybe it's the more obvious choice but MALLORY DODGE is so easy to relate with and I couldn't stop to think how she looks/looked alike me.

Mallory has this defense mechanism, especially after all she's been through, where she doesn't talk and uses silence as a shield. She doesn't know how to answered to determined affirmations or provocations so she decides to stay quite. Personally, this behaviour comes out after something bad happens and it's a way to react.

I adored how Mallory changed from the start until the very last page of this book. It's remarkable. That is what I call a development of a character.

StartFragment“Forever.

He'd promised he'd be there for me forever.

But I was of the mind that there were two types of forever.

The good kind.

The bad kind.

I'd learned early on that the good kind of forever was, well, it was a lie. That kind of forever literally and figuratively ended in flames, because no matter how tightly you tried to hold on, that kind of forever slipped between the fingers.

The bad kind of forever lingered lik a shadow or ghost. No matter what. It stayed, always in the background.” EndFragment

Recommend the book: YES, YES, YES.

I loved and devoured this book. It's a child story, a love story, a family story. It's full of love, friendship, feelings, pain, mistakes, growing up. It's a story full of life.

It's a book that you won't be able to put it down. Maybe you will miss your train stop but it doesn't matter. It's worth it.
